Applicable to all students and designed for classroom presentation, these "systems friendly" coping skills curricula promote a sense of community and understanding among students, parents, and faculty.
Although they have been used in a variety of ways, Journeys and Adventures: The Journey Continues! were written as concentrated, cohesive six-week units focusing on crucial coping skills needed at the middle school level.
Perfect as the first six-week unit in a health or social studies class, these curricula use a combination of educational and group learning experiences to help students explore who they are, how they think,
how they respond, how they learn, how they interact with adults and peers, and what skills are needed to navigate successfully in school and throughout life.
The nautical-themed Journeys curriculum covers such topics as: learning styles, effective communication, non-verbal communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, anger management, impulse control, drug and alcohol abuse, teacher-pleasing behaviors, decision making, goal planning, and making and keeping friends.
Adventures, written as a follow-up to Journeys, also stands alone in helping students better understand themselves and others, deal with differences in people, communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, make healthy decisions, and study more effectively.
Many of these timely topics are addressed through the dilemmas a group of diverse adolescents face as they compete as a team in a race to reach the top of an island.
Each curricula is reasonably priced at $440 for unlimited use at one campus. This cost includes a black-line master copy of the curriculum and a Teacher’s Manual. Journeys also includes a free companion video and student worksheets which were created to help students apply the curriculum in practical, real-life situations.
